IVF treatment, explained clearly and done with care

What is IVF?

Fertilisation outside the body, then back where it belongs

In IVF, eggs are collected from the ovaries and combined with sperm in our lab. The embryos that develop are watched closely for a few days, and the healthiest one is placed gently into the uterus.

  • A plan built around your tests, age and history
  • Close monitoring with scans and blood tests
  • ICSI and embryo freezing available when needed
  • Counselling support through the whole cycle

Who it’s for

When doctors usually recommend IVF

IVF isn’t always the first step. Your doctor will suggest it only when it gives you the best chance.

Blocked or damaged tubes

When eggs and sperm can’t meet naturally in the fallopian tubes.

Male-factor infertility

Low sperm count or movement, often combined with ICSI.

Endometriosis or PCOS

When these conditions affect ovulation or egg quality.

Low ovarian reserve

Fewer eggs available, often linked to age or a low AMH level.

IUI hasn’t worked

After several IUI cycles without a pregnancy.

Unexplained infertility

When tests look normal but pregnancy still hasn’t happened.

The IVF process

What happens, step by step

Timings vary from person to person. Your doctor will give you a clear calendar at the start.

About 4–6 weeksfor one full cycle, from the start of medication to your pregnancy test
  1. 1

    Consultation & tests

    1–2 visits

Hormone tests, an ultrasound and semen analysis help us plan the right approach for you.

  2. 2

    Ovarian stimulation

    About 8–12 days

Daily hormone injections help your ovaries develop several eggs. Scans and blood tests track how they grow.

  3. 3

    Egg collection

    15–30 minutes

Eggs are collected with a fine needle guided by ultrasound, under sedation. Most women go home the same day.

  4. 4

    Fertilisation in the lab

    Same day

Eggs are combined with sperm, or a single sperm is injected into each egg (ICSI) if needed.

  5. 5

    Embryo culture

    3–5 days

Our embryologists watch the embryos develop and select the healthiest. Good-quality extras can be frozen.

  6. 6

    Embryo transfer

    A few minutes

A soft, thin tube places the embryo in the uterus. It’s usually painless and needs no anaesthesia.

  7. 7

    Pregnancy test

    ~2 weeks later

A blood test confirms the result. We stay with you, whatever it shows, and plan the next steps together.

Success factors

What affects your chances with IVF

Every couple is different. These are the main things your doctor will look at.

01

Age

Egg quality and number naturally decline with age, especially after 35.

02

Ovarian reserve

How many eggs are available, often measured with an AMH test and scan.

03

Sperm quality

Count, movement and shape all play a part in fertilisation.

04

Embryo quality

How well embryos develop in the lab over the first few days.

05

Uterine health

A healthy uterine lining helps the embryo implant.

06

Lifestyle

Weight, smoking, alcohol and stress can all make a difference.

Our honest approach: no clinic can guarantee a pregnancy, and we won’t promise one. After your tests, Dr. Rekha will talk you through your personal chances and the options that suit you best.

IVF FAQs

Your IVF questions, answered

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp

How long does one IVF cycle take?
Usually about four to six weeks, from starting medication to the pregnancy test. Your first consultation and tests come before this.
Is IVF painful?
The injections cause mild discomfort, and some women feel bloated during stimulation. Egg collection is done under sedation, and embryo transfer is usually painless.
What is the difference between IVF and ICSI?
In IVF, eggs and sperm are placed together so fertilisation happens on its own. In ICSI, a single sperm is injected directly into each egg. ICSI is often used when sperm count or movement is low.
How many embryos are transferred?
Usually one or two, depending on your age and embryo quality. Transferring fewer embryos lowers the risk of twins or triplets, and Indian ART regulations set a maximum.
Can extra embryos be frozen?
Yes. Good-quality embryos can be frozen and used in a later transfer, without going through stimulation and egg collection again.
Can I keep working during IVF?
Most women continue working. Plan for short morning visits for scans, and a day of rest after egg collection.
