Male infertility: common, and often treatable

Male factors play a part in many couples’ difficulty conceiving, yet they’re often overlooked. We test and treat the male partner with the same care, privacy and respect as the female partner.

Understanding male fertility

It takes two, so we test both

Male fertility depends on how many sperm there are, how well they move, and their shape. Problems can come from hormones, blockages, varicocele (enlarged veins), infections, genetics or lifestyle. Most issues can be found with simple tests.

  • Semen analysis as the first, simple step
  • Hormone and further tests only if needed
  • Treatment from lifestyle advice to ICSI
  • Surgical sperm retrieval referral when required

Who it’s for

When to get a male fertility check

If you’ve been trying for a year (or six months if your partner is over 35), both partners should be tested.

Trying without success

No pregnancy after a year of regular trying.

Low sperm count

A previous test showed low count, movement or shape.

Past surgery or injury

Hernia repair, testicular injury or surgery in the past.

Medical conditions

Diabetes, hormone problems or past infections.

No sperm in a test

Azoospermia, where no sperm are found in the sample.

Lifestyle factors

Smoking, heavy alcohol, heat exposure or high stress.

Diagnosis & treatment

What happens, step by step

Most men need only a semen test to start. Further steps depend on the results.

Success factors

What affects male fertility

Many of these factors can be improved or worked around with the right treatment.

01

Sperm count

How many sperm are in each sample.

02

Movement (motility)

How well sperm swim towards the egg.

03

Shape (morphology)

Normally shaped sperm fertilise more easily.

04

Hormones

Testosterone and other hormones control sperm production.

05

Age & health

Health conditions and ageing can affect sperm quality.

06

Lifestyle

Smoking, alcohol, weight, heat and stress all play a part.

Our honest approach: A low result doesn’t mean you can’t become a father. Many men with sperm problems have children with the right treatment. Dr. Rekha will explain your results clearly and without judgement.

Male fertility FAQs

Your questions, answered

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp

How is a semen analysis done?
You give a sample in a private room at the clinic after 2–5 days without ejaculation. The lab checks sperm count, movement and shape.
Can lifestyle changes really help?
Yes. Stopping smoking, reducing alcohol, reaching a healthy weight and avoiding heat can improve sperm quality over about three months.
What if no sperm are found?
This is called azoospermia. Further tests help find the cause, and in some cases sperm can be retrieved surgically and used with ICSI.
Is male infertility common?
Yes. Male factors contribute to a large share of fertility problems, which is why we always test both partners.
Will the results be kept private?
Yes. Your tests and results are completely confidential.
Does a low count mean we need IVF?
Not always. Mild problems may be helped with lifestyle changes, medicines or IUI. ICSI is used when sperm numbers are very low.
