Understanding recurrent loss

Looking for the cause, gently

Recurrent pregnancy loss usually means two or more pregnancy losses. Possible causes include the shape of the uterus, hormone or thyroid problems, blood-clotting conditions, and genetic factors. Sometimes no clear cause is found, and many couples in this situation still go on to have a healthy pregnancy with supportive care.

  • A careful review of your history
  • Targeted tests for both partners
  • Treatment for any cause we find
  • Close monitoring and support in your next pregnancy

Success factors

What affects your chances

Your chances depend on the cause, if one is found, and a few other factors.

01

Age

Chances of a healthy pregnancy are higher at younger ages.

02

Number of losses

Your history helps guide how closely we monitor you.

03

Treatable causes

Many causes, like thyroid problems or a uterine septum, can be treated.

04

Genetic factors

Testing can guide options if a genetic cause is found.

05

General health

Blood sugar, weight and thyroid levels all play a part.

06

Early care

Close monitoring and reassurance in early pregnancy.

Our honest approach: We can’t promise that a loss won’t happen again, and we won’t pretend to. But we will look carefully for answers, treat what we can, and stay close to you in your next pregnancy.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Still unsure? Ask us on WhatsApp

Was it something I did?
Most pregnancy losses are not caused by anything you did. Many are due to chance problems in the developing pregnancy.
How many losses before we should get tested?
We usually recommend tests after two losses, or sooner if you’re over 35 or have a known health condition.
Will both of us need tests?
Some tests, such as genetic tests, may be advised for both partners.
What if no cause is found?
This is common. Many couples with unexplained losses still go on to have a healthy pregnancy, especially with close early care.
When can we try again?
When you feel ready, emotionally and physically. Dr. Rekha will advise on any tests or treatment to complete first.
Do you offer emotional support?
Yes. Counselling is available, on your own or together.
